I was wondering if it is possibly to create a site similar to www.dailylit.com, via Drupal. If you're not familiar with DailyLit, they allow users to sign up to receive books piece by piece via email (in small excerpts).

In theory yes.

however, don't expect it drupal out of the box to pull this type of site off, and you may very well need some custom coding to do what is being done on that site with regards to to the emailing.
