Privatemsg is in active development.
A useless fork "Privatemsg advanced" was once created as a quick shot and abandoned since.

Please follow the abandoned project process at http://drupal.org/node/251466, including contacting the project owner directly and moving the existing issue to the webmasters queue. We don't need two issues for the same thing, so closing this one as a duplicate.
