It looks (in the UI discussion) that there is already some serious thingking in progress about this, so here is my request: in many cases users would happily see just one checkbox that will subscribe them to both node updates and its comments.
Perfect flexibility would probably require that this is made an optional setting, probably per content type? (personally I do not insist on perfection yet - this module already KICKS ASS)

salvisThe plan is to provide site-wide and user defaults for the auxiliary controls and to hide them until a subscription is activated.

Crimson commentedI so agree with this! It's kind of complicated (to the user) to have both options available and if you combine it into one, you wouldn't need a checkbox anymore. You can just make them links. And I think links are an easier more simple UI for such things instead of a form.

salvisJust for the record: "On Updates" and "On Comments" are both in addition to the regular subscription to new nodes.
