Currently, MySite is only compatible with the Drupal-shipped older Jquery. We need to make it work with the current version 1.2.1.
All MySite functionality needs to be implemented.
Thanks for considering.

Not quite true
Actually, MySite is compatible with jQuery Update, which is jQuery version 1.1.2. The Interface jQuery component requires this version.

Is there any reason why this must be done prior to the Drupal 6 port?

Search first, ask good questions later.
Just for our needs
Hi,
we need this purely selfishly because some other components that we use depend on the current Jquery. However, we would be happy to provide this back to you if it could save you some work.
