I upgraded to Drupal 5.5 the first day it came out, but now the forums don't work. Here is the issue/s,
1. I make a new entry in the forum, and it gets submitted. However, the forum doesn't update by showing the new entry. But if I go to "admin" and check my "content" it shows the new entry as a "forum topic." The "forum topic" is logged in the data base, but it won't show up on the forum.
2. I Created a new forum and still have the same issue. The new forum topic entry gets submitted, but it doesn't show up in the forum. But when I check "content in the "admin", the entry appears there appropriately as a "forum topic."
3. I deleted all forums and started over with new forums. Duplicate problem. I've tried different angles to attack this and all forums refuse to update with any new entries. (but they are being logged into the database.)
4. Changed to different default themes, and still the same issue. I tried 3 different default themes -- so I assume this can't be a theme issue.
5. Checked admin logs and everything is normal. No errors are reported.
6. I disable, enabled all users, some users, no users, and still the forums refuse to update.
I'm user "1". I've worked this issue from every angle and I'm at a loss. I've checked all permissions, users, etc. I even "upgraded" a second time to version 5.5 thinking a file might have gotten lost in the mix. No matter what I try, the forums refuse to work correctly. Everything else appears to work correctly since the version 5.5 upgrade except the forums.
Can anybody throw me bone and tell me what I've done wrong? Am I the only one experiencing this issue?
Thanks,
Cliff

Unfortunately the 5.5 update
Unfortunately the 5.5 update didn't break forums, it's been broken for a very, very long time... Since 5.3 for me with your exact same problem. I've even made a completely new install which out-of-the-box doesn't work...
...Just to check something; does the taxonomy selection box appear when you create a forum post (to select the container/ forum to post in)? On mine it doesn't appear, on the new install it *does* appear - but both don't work in the same way...

Answer . . .
The taxonomy selection box does not appear.
Furthermore, I've created containers, forums, forums within containers . . . every possible way I could think of.
Should I delete all files and do fresh install? (I've already done that once already thinking that would work.)

I wish I could give you good
I wish I could give you good news, unfortunately nothing seems to work to get it working... It's borked...
I came to the conclusion that it's possibly an upgrade to PHP which has caused this as it's too weird that a fresh install won't work out-of-the-box as well. Is your server perhaps running Gentoo (fully updated?), if so - snap!

Thanks for the suggestion,
Thanks for the suggestion, but nope - doesn't help me. Forums are still borked on a clean install, so I know it's no configuration/ reinstall issue.

Clean install = new files +
Clean install = new files + new db, right? Sorry, silly question but just wanted to be sure you started with a fresh db as well.
Of course...

You checked troubleshooting FAQ?
I know pobster is saying this saying this is a problem on a clean install, but the symptoms sound very much like my handbook page on Forums stop working on re-install
If you actually followed the upgrade instructions and disabled forums before upgrading ;-) that could have triggered this error.

Nope, I've tried that too.
Nope, I've tried that too. I think I've already said that didn't work for me on another post previously about this error...
I can actually insert a line into the code to show that the vid, tid and everything are correctly present. It just doesn't make any difference...
