Can someone tell me how I can remove stuff from the front page? I apparently can't stop albums from displaying on the front page, so how can I remove stuff?

goto administer -> content types
edit the content type
uncheck promoted to the front page.

becasue you don't mention what module you are using to create galleries, it's a bit difficult to give module specific instruction.

I'm using acidfree, I have unchecked the option to promote to the front page in this module but the pictures are still showing up.

That preference applies to new nodes from now on. Not ones that are already promoted.

Visit admin - content management - content
Select the ones you don't want (you can use the filter by type if needed) and select the 'demote from front page' action

Is there a way I can edit what I have on the front page directly from a file? So that I would only have my blog, stories, pages, classified adds on the frontpage. I have disabled the acidfree content from being promoted to the front page but I think it's broken because it's still there!

edit the content on front page, expand the publishing options menu, is the promote to front page checked ? if so uncheck it.

there is no file to alter that will stop this as its a DB setting.

I have an install with acidfree and can indeed stop albums and images from being seen on front page. using the methods outlined by myself and dman.
