wmostrey CreditAttribution: wmostrey commentedThis steers a bit with E-Commerce solutions comparision. I'd say this is a very good task if you'd focus on one of them, and go as much into detail as possible. For instance: write the documentation on setting up Drupal with Ubercart, including screeshots of important configuration screens and include a 10-minute screencast.
You might want to remove the "web 2.0" reference since that's a very vague term.
Also the point "How is the security handled" is very vague and might fall outside the scope of this documentation. Do you want a code audit, have the student check if the connection with for instance Paypal is secure? I'd drop this point.

Sree CreditAttribution: Sree commentedYes, actually i wanted to present a writeup on configuring an online store using ubercart, but i thought it would be less for a time of 1 week. So, i changed the task description including drupal e-commerce package.

aclight CreditAttribution: aclight commentedI agree with wmostrey's points. The security question isn't explained well and is probably out of scope.
I'd suggest picking either ubercart or e-commerce as the task and create a tutorial for how to set up the site. A screencast OR pictures would be a great addition to the task (I think doing both might be a bit too much work).
I would go further and give a specific example of what the student should demonstrate. For example, create a store that sells books. Demonstrate how to do X, Y, and Z.
See http://code.google.com/p/google-highly-open-participation-drupal/issues/... for an example of a very detailed task that turned out really well.

aclight CreditAttribution: aclight commentedOh, also, I think the SEO analysis is also out of scope here, but it looks like you've created a separate issue for that now.

bowwowadmin CreditAttribution: bowwowadmin commentedI'm in the middle of two sites right now with drupal and ubercart. one has 12,000 products and one has 40.
I wish there was docs on ubercart...
as I'm just learning drupal and ubercart.
I did get all the product info in for the 12,000 with a script. Having trouble figuring out the attributes and all.
as soon as I get it figured out I can help.

Blueeeeie CreditAttribution: Blueeeeie commentedHi,
I'm not sure if anyone is still doing this, but I'm putting together a simple guide for building an online store using Ubercart here.
I'm just building this based on my experiences with Ubercart and Drupal since I've done quite a few shopping cart sites already. Please feel free to contribute and help build up this guide, or point out my mistakes if any. Its still a work in progress since I only add a page or 2 to the guide everyday.
I'd also like to start guides on building other types of websites using Drupal as well so if you'd like to participate do let me know!

klucid CreditAttribution: klucid commentedSo far so good on the tutorial. I'm going to try to follow this later this week and set up a beta site.
Are you still working on it? I'd love to see a Paypal Pro integration.

asperi CreditAttribution: asperi commentedI know this is an old post but just wondering what script you used to get the 12,000 products in. I have the same task, coming from an access database.
Thanks
