Birthday uses profile. Access to profile fields is handled by profile privacy module (not as configurable as in birthdays, but it is) .Currently birthday module switches off the settings that members set in their profile. That should be improved: We need another option to show the date according to the settings done by profile privacy. Best solution would be to improve the settings in profile privacy and just depend on that module.

Profile Privacy is now unsupported for Drupal 5. This should be done for D7 first and could be backported. Postponed at least until Profile Privacy for D7 is released.

Thanks - wouldn't have noticed because of the different module name.

I just tested Birthdays with Profile2 and Profile2 Privacy and it works as it should, just as any other field type. (*Taps shoulders for making birthdays a field type*).
