Today's schools, like everything else in the world, are constantly in need of effective content management systems. Your task here will be to create a recipe for how to do that with Drupal.
This includes:
1) Researching different ways of creating "courses" in Drupal and presenting what you think is the best way.
2) Researching different modules that are particularly useful for a school website (Flashcard modules, etc.).
3) Finding several existing Drupal-powered high school websites, figuring out how they implement some of their cool features, and recording what you find.
Resources:
* Drupal module list at http://drupal.org/project/Modules.
* Google search for "school" on Drupal.org at http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Adrupal.org+school&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-...
* Asking members of the Drupal community for help at irc.freenode.net channel #drupal-ghop.
This project is finished when there is a handbook page ready that is approved by two people in the Drupal community.

Hmm... perhaps creating an install profile wouldn't be a bad idea either...
What does everyone think?

Please note that there already exists a DrupalED distribtion that does just this:
http://drupal.org/project/drupaled
http://groups.drupal.org/drupaled-distro
What might make this a great task is to have a student review the distribution, document it's features in a handbook (from installation to configuration to customization) and to propose manners to improve the distribution on the g.d.o.

Seems like a good idea. Perhaps this task could be changed into making new modules for DrupalED?
