I notice that if I protect an image node and use image assist to embed it in a page, and the page is not protected, the image is displayed along with the page (no password is requested).

I am not sure if that is desired behavior or not so I am noting it as a feature request for possible consideration, rather than a bug.

image module creates a new node for an uploaded image. This behavior is meant by design.
BTW if I'll have some time (and fix all the bugs) I will try to find a way to solve this issue.
