I get this msg : To administer the board you must re-authenticate yourself.
I have tried with admin_phpbb as well as regular admins

Maybe the users don't have phpbb_admin rights (in Drupal), or perhaps your password got out of sync at some point.
Use phpmyadmin, check the password hashes are the same in both tables. Could also be another cookie issue.

the passwords are the same and the user (uid 2) definetely has 'admin phpbb' rights
