altparty.net moved from XOOPS to Drupal

truelove-nl - December 23, 2007 - 10:00

It's already been a couple of months ago when altparty.net succesfully switched her CMS from XOOPS to Drupal. Altparty.net is an abbreviation for alternative party network which is in fact a social network website for people interested in dark, glamourous and naughty parties. The main parts of the website are an extensive party calendar (with a Google Maps mashup) and a huge amount of party reports, mainly written by the owners of altparty.net.

The user profile section is based on Michelle's tutorial (http://shellmultimedia.com/), for what we want to thank her for.

So have a look at http://www.altparty.net.

Althought this website is meant for adults, it contains no 'adult' content.

Used modules:
- CCK
- event
- invite
- gmap
- image
- image attach
- imagecache
- guestbook
- thickbox
- links
- i18n
- usernode
- nodeprofile
- buddylist
- views
- jrating
- tagadelic
- and more...

It looks like an excellent job done.
One quick question :

Can users set their profiles or albums or guestbooks to "usable by buddies" only ?

Thanks for the compliment.

truelove-nl - December 23, 2007 - 13:13

Thanks for the compliment. We chose to make profiles accessible for all members. But, your suggestion could be part of a next enhancement. Is this 'usable by buddies' option already available?

I am not sure whether this

minesotaa - December 23, 2007 - 13:39

I am not sure whether this is available or not, thats why I posted this question.

Setting the privacy level out-of-box for what content I post [ my profile, an album., my blog ] seems to be the most happening [ see orkut/facebook or scripts like phpfox ]as well as appropriate thing.

So I was wondering whether you have implemented this in your site so that we could take a clue :-)

We implemented your

We implemented your suggestion. I can be done with http://drupal.org/project/private_nodes.

Hi, thanks a lot for pointing this out.
Are you able to set privacy levels to profile also ?

Recently there was a discussion in this respect at http://drupal.org/node/203935

Sure, you can use it for all

truelove-nl - December 28, 2007 - 23:29

Sure, you can use it for all content types. But we only use it for the user profiles.

Thanks for the tip. Problem solved. I changed the width of the Gmap to 95% instead of a fixed width.

Hello trulove.

i have a question. how did you do that users can sort users by criterias?

http://img6.imageshack.us/my.php?image=whichmodulefa2.jpg

Sort users by criteria

truelove-nl - February 17, 2009 - 08:09

We created one node per user for his/her profile-data (with the use of nodeprofile and advanced profile kit). Within this node there are several fields, like gender, age, figure etc. with a limited set of values. With a view we show their avatars and use some of the fields as exposed filters.

hi truelove

Buffer2k - February 17, 2009 - 22:58

hello truelove.

thank you for answering!

and what about the list with the criterias? is the list to specifiy the result in views included or is it an extra module? or is it a customized thing?

thank you very much

List of criteria

truelove-nl - February 18, 2009 - 08:18

We defined gender, age, figure, lenght, dressing style etc. by ourselves. They're all CCK fields. We also defined the available set of values by ourselves. For instance for age-field we use values like 18-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64 and older than 65. This is all done with CCK fields. No extra/custom code or modules.

The grid view has been set up with the Views Bonus Pack (http://drupal.org/project/views_bonus) and styled with CSS.

truelove, thank you for

Expose filters

truelove-nl - March 1, 2009 - 16:19

After you've added the filters, click on 'Expose'.
After that, we've chosen to set the options 'optional', 'force default' and 'lock operator' active.

Buffer2k - March 7, 2009 - 21:20

hey truelove! thank you. it worked very fine!

Would you answer another question please? :)

On this site, you are using views, right? http://www.altparty.net/de/parties/angel-in-bondage

How did you do it, that only nodes are displayed which belongs to the same taxonomy term? which arguments did you set?

i appreciate your help very much!

taxonomy term as argument

truelove-nl - March 8, 2009 - 12:42

It's a page which has been set up with the panels module. On the 'Context' tab, we've added the 'taxonomy term' as argument. In the views we added 'term ID' as argument.

We hope this answers your question.
