There is a problem with presentation of German special letters (äüöß...) and UTF-8 / ISO-8859-1.

Example: ü => =FC

Or the subject of an email looks like:

=?ISO-8859-1?Q?Nur_noch_HEUTE_2_Gutscheine_f=FCr_Sie,_Frau_Peters!?=

How can we fix it?

I've just submitted some code that takes care of the headers, but I wasn't able to figure out how to get the bodies converted. Check it out after the new tarball gets created and see if that takes care of your problem. Let me know how it works or doesn't work for you.
