thehong commentedI think because of license, the author can not include them in his source code, so you should make them by your seft.
Netzarim commentedAlthough I don't think the KJV is the most accurate, it is old enough to be without copyright issues and is commonly distributed in most Bible applications. There are old JPS versions of the Tanakh also. Just don't try to use Green's Interlinear or one of the newer translations. In fact, The sword project (http://www.crosswire.org/sword/index.jsp) has many open source texts that could be used as plugins for this module with some editing. Also, there is a project for XML extensions that to build online and electronic bibles on.
At least one open source Bible should be included with a module like this so that there is a starting point other than "here's how to create your own modules".
For me, if I need to create my own bible module for this, I need the core bible module to support Hebrew and Greek fonts, footnotes, annotations, verse linking, etc... In this way it becomes a useful tool and translation issues can be documented and corrected.

MikeLee_Birdy commentedIf anyone can tell me that any bible version will not encounter license problem, I'll be happy to offer .bc file for everyone.
Also, if anyone has any context to convert, I can help, if you mail the bible context to me.
Talking about Hebrew/Greek functions, my plan is to develop "Strong Number" function on it. But this is a big step to jump. So, do you think these funtions is worth to develop?
thehong commentedSure Mike, it makes us understand Bible more clearly.
andrewblack commentedi don't mind about license problem. is'it belong to GOD? can you give me english version.
I will send you Indonesian Version, can you translate it to bc format?
MikeLee_Birdy commentedYes. Please visit my web http://drupalbible.mikelee.idv.tw to fetch english file.
And, you can find my email on the FrontPage, please mail me your bible text file, and I'll try to convert ASAP.
hermit_kid commentedyour link is broken, also, Bible text is public domain..
if you're site is going to be down, just attach the files to your reply geez -- why are you getting all selfish with the good book?
andrewblack commentedi tried this link couple days ago and it work. but when i import the .bs bible module said invalid .bs file
Comment #10
2222a commentedyour site is down Mike. I'd love to have a source converted into .bc file.
geomarketing commentedThe KJV is "Common Domain" and has no licensing issues (I think it is the most accurate and the Bible I use personally). I would also like to get the .bc KJV file. I am also interested in a Strongs version, native language, the ability for user notes etc. so whoever is working on this let me know and I will provide whatever help I can.
MikeLee_Birdy commentedSorry for this broken site. My ISP down for 2 days. So, please be patient until Monday.
KJV is already put on the site. If anyone can offer any other license free version, I'd be glad to convert it.
Strong version is done on 5.x-2.0-dev. But, there's also a license problem: I cannot be sure if the strong number file is licensed. If anyone can offer me a license-free strong number, I'd be glad to put it on my site.
Now I'm working on a Chinese-Traditional Strong number file(*.sn), because it's license-free.
MikeLee_Birdy commentedMm....I've tried before. But, kjv.bc.tar.gz is too big to upload. So I have to setup another place to put all the .bc and .sn files.
MikeLee_Birdy commentedPlease be sure to unzip/untar the file. Or....should I put a original *.bc text file? That might to 4-5 MB...
geomarketing commentedThe Strongs version also appears to be in public domain, at least in the US, in England it is another matter. Here a link to a site that lists different translations and their copyright information.
http://www.studylight.org/info/copyright/bible/.
Also the Stephens 1550 Textus Receptus Greek text appears to be in the public domain which is the Greek the KJV is translated from and has versions with Strongs numbering available out there. Here is a source for that and some others. http://bibledatabase.org/bibles_greek.html.
andrewblack commentedi unzip this file first, may be when upload something wrong goes. Can i upload .bs file in my server folder and then import manually?
MikeLee_Birdy commentedIt's the better way to import. Because the importing time will cost awhile. If you importing on a different machine, throught network will slow down the importing.
andrewblack commentedThe bible import failed, because the file %filename could not be read.
When i upload the .bs file shown that error. What about that?
josuebb commentedI'm looking for a file with the reina-valera version (Spanish) of the Bible. Does anyone help me? Thanks.
ricslick commentedI am willing to host .BC files for all of us to use on my server. If any of you have these files, please contact me and I will make sure to set it up for all of us to retrieve it any time we need it.
hermit_kid commentedagreed -- this module just leaves us beta users in the dark. i don't understand why the author/moderator is doing this to us.
MikeLee_Birdy commentedSorry for all about .bc file. Is there anyone can tell me about the "Import fail" error and I'll try to fix it.
And, I've host this file on http://drupalbible.mikelee.idv.tw/ . So please tell me if there's any problems.
hermit_kid commentedHow do we import the *.bc file?
there is another way to install this by just adding it to a folder? which folder is that -- please specify the relative path;
Also, where on the web, do you we get bc files? If bc is your own format --- then what is the best format to use, that will convert easily? it might be easier to ask, what format did you use?
hermit_kid commentedok importing is obvious --- when access the module in admin mode, there is an import tab; invoking the import action will cause a native import dialog to be launched --- ie, you'll specify it's path on your local machine.
ok,..so here's the question...can we just copy it to the server folder? If I just move to some specific folder, will it read it and them render it in the module? or is it mandatory that it get imported?
hermit_kid commentedit worked for me,..it's just good to know these details -- others will definately ask.
hermit_kid commentednow that it installed --- the question is, how do i start interacting with it? are these nodes? or text -- how do i get to the content; it's just sitting int he db.
a step by step instruction would really help. do have to turn it on some how?
ricslick commentedI am not getting a chapter count. Anyone got a clue as to why?
MikeLee_Birdy commentedDear hermit_kid:
I've thinking about this possibility. But finally I found it more functions if import verses into db. And, it's not in node-type. You can treat this module as a "DB-Select" module.
I'll use node-type functions in the next version as a "Bible-Study-Diary" node. If you got any good idea, please tell me so that I can write better functions for all.
MikeLee
Comment #29
MikeLee_Birdy commentedDear ricklick:
Sorry... I don't understand "chapter count". Please tell me more so that I can solve this problem.
MikeLee
Comment #30
ricslick commentedI'll attach an image so you can see what happens after I upload the .BC file. To summarize, it recognizes the bibles, but it does not seem to see the chapters or verses. If you see the screen shot I have attached, it will all make sense.
By the way Mikelee, thanks for creating such a useful module that will surely be a great tool to spread the Gospel!
MikeLee_Birdy commentedDear ricklick:
Please check admin/logs/watchdog to see if the bible is normally imported. The normal List will show in the picture uploaded. Chpater should have 66 (That remind me this should be 'Book Count'!), and Verse Count should have 31102 or more.
I guess there should have some import error. Can you open .bc file in notepad or any editor to see it's ok or not?
MikeLee
Comment #32
ricslick commentedThe .BC file seems to import fine, but it's what happens afterwards thats a mystery to me.
This is what watchdog says to me:
"fopen(C:\XXX.log) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/vbcorgaa/public_html/modules/bible/bible.module on line 211."
MikeLee_Birdy commentedDear ricslick:
Well.... this should be an old version bug. Please download the new version to solve this problem.
Hoho....You can guess I develop this module in windows environment.....
MikeLee
Comment #34
ricslick commentedMikelee,
Now I'm getting this error:
"Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR in /home/vbcorgaa/public_html/modules/bible/bible.module on line 289"
I am working from the latest release.
MikeLee_Birdy commentedDear ricslick:
I've just put the lastest version on. It's 5.x-1.3-rc2. Could you try it and tell me the result?
MikeLee
Comment #36
ricslick commentedSame error:
"Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR in /home/vbcorgaa/public_html/modules/bible/bible.module on line 289"
lookatyeti commentedMike it seems like your site is down again? Is there any other way to get a .bs file?
MikeLee_Birdy commentedDear mrtnyeti:
Yes. I got Chinese new year these days. Site will recovery until next Tuesday. I'll try to put all Public Domain bible context on it, so, if you find any PD bible, please tell me to convert it.
MikeLee
Comment #39
dforge commentedMany thanks!! Great module. Got it working well in about 30 minutes on my site http://stanthonystt.info
Thanks again!
niko2137 commentedKeep get error "The bible import failed, because the file could not be read." when I try to upload file. I have tried different .bc files and receive the same errors.
andrewblack commentedMySQL version? I get that error when using MySQL ver 4, that because table bible_context not created when install, so i use this http://drupal.org/node/230166 to create table manually. If you still have that error, try to install in your local host then export table with pre bible_ with phpmyadmin and then export to your live site.
MTecknology commentedThis didn't help me any... In fact, it actually made things worse.
MTecknology commentedAssuming this was either resolved or won't be.
