After finding drupal 5 months ago, I have developed several sites.
My latest project integrates flash into my Drupal themes.
The site is http://www.worldcauseonline.org
I'm a young designer (17 yr), with a lot more to learn. My drupal based portfolio is http://www.jovialdesigns.com.
Does drupal have create division or group for young designers/developers?
Also, is anyone interested in more flash integration into templates. ----xml files/nodes---seo friendly/and if flash not detected html/php is always available. I'm not sure what kind of experience I need, but I am a very fast learner, and I would be willing to help develop templates/system for this

you dont need the splash page
the header to your home page is absolutely gorgeous! beautiful site, wish i could design like that!
Thank you! Hmmm...the
Thank you! Hmmm...the members if the organization really like tha splash page. Also it gives the option of going to either the main site or the blog, so it isn't entirely useless...then again there is SEO to think about. I'm not sure on that one. I know if I were to remove , I would get a lot of complaints. Maybe i will use some javascript that give alternate content that is visible to th robots.
well, if the clients like
well, if the clients like it, thats all that matters, really.
hey wait, i didnt even see the blog, thats great too! i guess a splash page for the blog and main site might be a good idea after all.
Great site! You are
Great site!
You are definitely a very talented 17 year old.
Refreshing and interesting images Joy.
had a look at the blog and that looks great. Went over to your design site and looked at http://www.jovialdesigns.com/node/24 , Quesrema Drug Design. hate to be a bore but pressense [on the top line] has one s not two, but the site still looks great
Cheers
Not a bore at all. THANK YOU
Not a bore at all. THANK YOU So much! Seriously. I was thinking of making the template or one like it available for other drupal users. I've had such a great experience using the CMS that I want to contribute in some way. I really think a good druplash template would be popular.
YOU ARE THE MAN!!!
17 years old - WOW - I just can't say how impressed I am. Good job really. I wish I can do 5% of what I've seen. I take my hat off for you ;)
Drupal needs talented people like you, espacially designing a good theme as you mention in your comment above. If you can put sometime aside and give back for drupal community by offering a simple neet theme, I'm sure people here will love you forever! I know I will!
Can you please tell me what you use for email subscription on the site? I currently use Feedburner but would like to have my own if possible.
Thanks and keep up the good work!

word.
this is very nice work!
No splash page
The two sites (blog and main site) seem to have almost identical content; why not pick one that people like most and stick to that one? But overall, well done!
Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks for the feedback.
CompShack..I'm a girl for pc purposes, but I have no complaints what so ever in being "THE MAN" in this case.
I used the simplenews module for the subscription.
Hmmm..The content is identical...except the blog has a gallery.
I was thinking of having users choose what theme they prefer. Most of the people in the organization like the darker one. There are supposed to be two separate sections, upon request....Once there is more content I think the distinction will be more clear. The blog is geared towards a younger crowd, not sure if you read the posts I wrote..Election 2008, One Laptop Per Child.
Right now I have to catch up on a reading assignment, and I'm freaking out about getting a 33 on the ACT and 34 superscore, so once I finish my homework and another site I'm working on, I will look into contributing a theme.
Theme Request
I have posted a theme request that you might like to work on, I think they would be very popular, the feature headers that change with the time of day. I have a camchat site that I would like to use it on, the cam is in africa and thought it might be useful for the members to realize that while we might be watching it at 2 pm it is already 7 pm there. It was a fun thought, but I don't have a clue how to make it work, leaveing that to the pros.
You have a really nice flash site, I persoannly liked the splash page, but I like flashy things anyway.
You are indeed talented.

Sorry
Sorry for assuming you are a man! - I guess i shouldn't have.
Thanks for the Hint on the simplenews module :)
Later j11t!

Splash page
I'm opposed to splash pages in general, so maybe I'm just too biased :)
I like to keep things as simple as possible - like my own site http://samitwebsites.com (ok, maybe this one is a bit too simple).
What I meant to say was that all the content can be put on one of the sites, which is the right way I think. But that's up to you really; it's the quality of content that matters in the end.
Yep, I read one of your posts. Hope you have a great birthday ;)
I'm rather ambivalent when
I'm rather ambivalent when it comes to splash pages. I usually wrestle with them and eventually remove them...but it depends, especially when SEO comes into play.
Nothing wrong with simplicity. I tried the minimalist approach at one point after falling in love with www.alistapart.com. Some of my sites embody that approach, I'm not sure if I put any in the portfolio.
I really enjoy designing websites, when I found out people actually get paid quite well for something I considered a hobby, I was floored. Since it is something I have done pro bono, I never considered the monetary value of the skill, but know when I reflect on the knowledge I have acquired and continue to seek, not to mention the time, I can now began to comprehend why people pay thousands of dollars for a good design.
So all this , to ask what do you charge(I understand this varies depending on scope of project additional elements, so I'm looking more at a base rate), what do you consider a fair rate, and how much does experience factor in. I have about 3 years. My problem: I love to design websites so much, I sometimes use my own money to put sites up for other people. I don't want to sell myself short, but I also want everyday people to have aesthetically pleasing sites.
Any suggestions? I'm not out to be a millionaire...yet ;P
Well, businesses usually charge
Well, businesses usually charge as much as they can get away with :)
But I don't have much experience in the business area myself; I am into programming most of the time. Plus, I haven't had much chance to work with clients yet. But charging "thousands" sounds about right. Sorry can't be of much help... one thing I see pros do though is simply asking the clients for their budget, saying that the budget will determine how much time they can dedicate to the project.
I will definitely look into
I will definitely look into that. I happen to be from Africa...Ghana actually. I live in the US though. I'm starting to feel like a part of the drupal community :D!
