it will be very nice if you add an User Relationship Shortest Route plugin that shows the shortest route between relationships like we know it from xing!

+1 for this idea.

From a user point of view, when you stumble upon a user, it is very useful to know , how you are related to thos person or how someone knows you may be known to this person.

Specially look at the lineage concept at the end. These ideas depend on data manipulation at the time of storage because if you don't do at storage, compleletely doing a lookup is not scalable for larger data sets.
