Hello,

Just getting to know Drupal, created a primary menu item: "About us" and then entered "this is where the about stuff goes" and published it. So far so good, when I click the link is see the page "this is where the about stuff goes" but when i go to edit this page I see lots of other options, but nowhere do I see edit the "this is where the about stuff goes" any ideas what basic mistake i'm making?

Cheers...sorry if this is a dumb question but just cant figure it out!

When you created a page you also created a menu item which would be in your admin section:

administration>menus

is that what you mean?

Yep I did that but still find nowhere to edit the text

if you click edit you've got first title, then body, then a bunch of settings that you can input.. try to search for the body.. there it should be. If you're new to website development I suggest you to use firefox and install firebug, that's great tool to see (visually) what's going on, once you've installed this on your computer you should be able to find "textarea".. (when editing the node of course). Believe me, try it ! The disadvantage of firebug is that it makes your firefox pretty buggy too.. so you might wanna switch this off when you don't want to code, use.

Authentically,

Ok tried that that but no section called body??? Now i'm really confused?????

So there must be an admin setting that I have missed somewhere that allows me to edit a page??

Did you actually create a Page or just a menu item? What's the address you get when you see the page?

ludo1960’s picture

Hi thanks for you time, yes i did create a page then assign it to the primary menu, the address is http://localhost/drupal/?q=node/1 my very first Drupal page! and I cant edit it! I really am confused now!

Ok I called the page "about us" and the menu item "about us" too is this a problem for drupal?

Naming the page and it's menu item the same shouldn't be any problem at all. I've done it on multiple pages on my site. The problem puzzles me, though. It is certainly not a dumb question, as you stated in your original post. I have no clue yet what the problem might actually be, but perhaps you can answer the questions below so we can rule some things out. Some question may seem trivial/dumb, but it's sometimes easy to overlook the most obvious (and I know, because I once nearly fried myself taking apart a power outlet without taking out the fuse...) and some because I'm not always sure I'm clear about something.

  1. Are you logged in as a user who has editing rights (for example: the main admin account)?
  2. Are you able to access http://localhost/?q=node/1/edit?
  3. What options are available to you on the editing form?
  4. Have you installed or enabled any non-default modules or themes?
  5. Last (or maybe better, first) resort. Go to the editing form and disable css in your browser. Is the body textarea showing up now?

Again, I have no clue what the problem might be right now, but the info you gave so far doesn't make sense in a normal Drupal installation.

Thank for your help:

1 logged in as admin

2 Yes can access http://localhost/drupal/?q=node/1/edit? in my case!

3 Everthing but edit "body"

4 Yes been mucking about with themes and modules, tried disabling everything and starting from scratch

5 dont know how to do that??? sorry

Thanks again!

... because I'm drawing a blank. If I understand it all correctly, you tried from scratch (default modules and themes) creating a page. It's possible to insert the body text during the initial creation, but editing a page leaves out only this particular textarea. If I wrote this down correctly, I can only qualify it as bizarre behavior for which I have no clue what may be causing it. Few more questions:

  1. Does this behavior happen at other (default) themes?
  2. Does this happen with other content types, like books or stories?
  3. With a clean install, you mean both files as well as empty database?

En ja, ik ben echt een Nederlander... / And yes, I really am a Dutchman...

Dank ye wel,

I'm gonna start again, van het begint, to be truthful i've been looking at the database and the scripts, and you know what it's like when you're interested in something and want to know how it it works. So it is quite possible that i've made a teeny weeny mistake somewhere on my travels.

Thanks for you interest, greatly apprieciated! Tot Ziens Jongen!

re: point 3- When you say you can see everything but edit "body", you can really see everything? Wow. You must have a really big monitor.

Seriously though, can you describe exactly what you can see? (a screenshot would be ideal, but if you can't then just describe the headings in order is included in 'everything'?....

It should look something like:

Title of node [View] [Edit]

Title:
[Title of Node here]

Body:
[Body of node here]

>Input Format
>Menu Settings
>Authoring Information

Yes you are correct, i see:

Title of node [View] [Edit]

Title:
[Title of Node here]

Log message:

>Input Format
>Menu Settings
>Authoring Information

but no body !!

I'm gonna give up, delete everything and start again with Drupal. I have been "playing" about with it and I find it very interesting, I even resorted to editing my node/1 page in the database itself.. oops sorry.

But I would like to thank everyone for your help in getting me started with drupal.

Great Stuff guys!

Many thanks, greatly apprieciated!

You have not heard the last of me....lol

You have not heard the last of me....

We'd better not. Obviously, I want to know if a fresh start solved the problem, and if you perhaps ever found out what was the problem after all.

:)

Grootjes!

OK, took me 3 hours to delete, reinstall and then get back to the now famous node/1, guess what? It works! This time I didn't go "sniffing" through the themes, modules, PHPscript, stylesheets or even the database! There is a school of thought that says "if it aint broke, don't fix it!" however I hasten to add, there is another school, just round the corner that says "take it to bits, see how it works then when it breaks you've got half a chance of fixing it!"

Thank's again for your help.

So, tot de volgende keer van de scot met de rok!
