Organic Groups is probably the most commonly used module that uses the 'node_access' table. However, it isn't always clear which of the other node_access modules is compatible with it. It is fairly difficult to figure it out from the documentation and from the issue queue. A proper compatibility chart with instructions would make it much easier to deploy Organic Groups for sites with small budgets.
Task: Compile a compatibility chart of Organic Groups and at least five other node access modules.
Suggested procedure:
- Install Drupal with Organic Groups
- Use Devel module to populate install with nodes and mark them as belonging to private and public groups
- Install other node access modules one by one and investigate what impact the following have:
* Installing the module
* Applying the module to different nodes
* Disabling the module
* Disabling/uninstalling the OG module
* Stopping the node access feature of the OG module
- Look at the following types of impact:
* loss of functionality
* changes in the node_access table
- Describe how easy it is to revert any changes
- Review the issue queues and documentation of these modules and suggest alterations/solutions
Suggested modules for review:
- ACL, Nodeaccess, Simple Access, Taxonomy Access Control, TAC Lite, eJournal, Forum Access, Conference
Deliverables:
- Annotated compatibility chart
- List of suggested improvements to documentation of individual modules and OG
- Handbook page on the details of the node_access table when used by different modules and suggestions when administrators may find it beneficial to look at the table itself
Optional:
- Note mutual compatibility of other node_access modules if time allows although this might be to extensive a task
- Note what changes Drupal 6 will bring in this area
