Nancy, All,
I don't know if this is really a feature request. It is probably something I can do myself, but I figured I would bring it up in case it has been raised before or in the event that there is a "right" way to do it (or if others are interested).
We just started using the FAQ module on our intranet. Great. For computing issues, we'd like to maintain a distinction between FAQs and "How-Tos". FAQs would be fairly short and sweet, How-To docs would be longer and could include images and pictorial instructions.
The simplest way I could think to do this would be to clone the FAQ module as "How-To" and so have a separate content type of how-to. Then we could simply tweak the settings of the cloned module. For example, our FAQs expand on the present page; How-Tos would open on a new page.
Is this an old idea? Is there a right way to go about it? And a way to go about it that would allow consistency with future FAQ module updates?
Thanks!
Jim

nancydruWell, Jim, thanks for including me in your salutation. However, just so every one knows (this is the 2nd time today), I do not own or maintain the FAQ module - that's Stella Power.
Now for my two cents worth: I would start by making a copy of the FAQ module and then doing a global find and replace of faq to 'howto'. Then test it and fix what you missed.
I changed this to a support request because I doubt seriously that this request would be considered as a feature. I do think it has been asked before though.

geste commentedFirst: Stella, Thank you! I showed off the FAQ module at an admin staff meeting this past week and people were psyched -- really impressed.
Nancy, yes, I was about to globally replace, but figured I would ask before proceeding. Sorry for my confused salutation. Many years ago I had a neighbor in Hialeah Florida whose phone number was one digit off from the pro shop at the Doral "Gold" golf course. After about 200 wrong-number calls....she started giving out tee times :)
"Why, yes, Doctor Sanders, a foursome at 7:45!"

stella commentedHi Jim,
Yes, nancyw's suggestion of copying the module and just replacing every 'faq' string with 'howto' should work. Just don't forget the install, css, info and js files too! If you run into any problems, just let me know.
Cheers,
Stella

nancydruYou might also want to make a patch file when you're done so you can apply it to new releases. Otherwise you'll have to either freeze the HowTos or re-do all the changes each time a new release comes out.
