drupal special chars error

Still learning my way through, but I am getting an error when I click on a category in weblinks about the special chars function.

Searching through drupal, I found this: http://drupal.org/node/19792 which says the specialchars function has been replaced by check_plain. That bug was marked critical so I have also marked this one critical.

I tried it myself, and it seems to work. The display of the weblinks could use some work, but that's not the point. ;p

I don't know how to make a patch, but I have attached the modified weblink module file.
