This one may already be suggested, but I didn't find it on here, so i thought id add this one.
Drupal dojo is a great resource in itself but what about a (user generated?) list of reaources, ie, books, blog posts, handbook pages, links, and pdfs that are sortable and searchable by topic. So that finding specific resources on a certain topic is much easier, even if it isn't covered in a screencast or even if it is (it may cover slightly different topics). It would be great if these could all cross reference each other by using the same taxonomy or something, and perhaps users could comment on their usefullness. Or rate them in some fashion.

niklp commentedTo be honest, I think this is sort of covered by the bookmarking feature that has already been mentioned. See all the additional comments and I think you'll be content.

brenda003I don't understand how this relates to the bookmarking feature, as I believe this is off site resources? I like the idea of being able to find other resources, as people often have trouble finding the various places to get info (such as the Lullabot podcasts and PDD) and a general directory of other resources could be good. We would need to be careful not to try to become a handbook, of course, since that's what Drupal.org is for.

niklp commentedBookmarks are off site (for the most part), as far as I could tell? Other stuff would be linked directly from the lesson page (pastebins etc)

brenda003I think all these terms are getting confusing, or I'm just up too late. Either way, reading the bookmarks issue as I understand it, is being able to bookmark content on the actual dojo site, as well as having these bookmarks (or something?) relate to each lesson via taxonomy/tagging. Excellent! But what I think this issue is more about is having a *general* list of resources for those new to the Drupal community and want to find various sources immediately, such as books, tutorial sites, videos that aren't created by the dojo, the Drupal handbook, etc.
Not sure it's necessary, just trying to clarify this issue.

patchak commentedI'm in the process of building a site like this for the Drupal Community that could be released as soon as Feb. 1. The idea is to build a social bookmarking site based around Drupal and maybe web design and php in general eventually. (Mostly Drupal).
This site that I built could maybe be integrated into a subdomain of the dojo to keep users all at the same place.
My goal is to be able to let people post useful links and tag them, but also allow people to vote for them to really make the best pages come to the top.. (drupal-digg) ??
People could also use modules like subscriptions or mysite to follow specific users or terms... groups?
This site is already pretty finished, so would be a shame to double the work??

westwesterson commentedI think this should be on drupal dojo for deeper integration, not another site (the less sites the better). But whether we call this social bookmarks or a repository, the general idea is there. As long as this is being talked about, and perhaps integrated in I am happy.
I think the most important part is a centralized repository for links, which can pull from the drupal dojo lessons. Being able to sort links by topic, brings interrellated links and resources together. Also we should think about being able to sort by version number, (ie. this is a tip for drupal 6). And perhaps even the modules (if any) involved.

senpai commentedYa know, when Squiddy and I built out the original site, we made a section for external reference links that users could submit. It was basically a bastardized node that, when submitted, redirected itself to the Resources page. Users could suggest external resources to the dojo site that might be helpful to other users, and yes, there was freetagging involved. ;-)
We even thought that maybe a Fivestar or Vote_Up_Down system would help the cream of the crop rise to the top. Alas, the Resources page never lived long enough to see itself as a Digg clone.
The second re-design of the site killed the Resources section, mostly casue there wasn't anywhere to place it. It still lives, though. The links are no longer clickable, cause we never bothered to update our custom module for D5.5, but hey.

niklp commentedWhat the...?
What would be the point of having list of bookmarks that only internally reference the site? My whole point of getting involved with this is to remove the clutter, and have everything related to each lesson, on ONE page. Then you don't need to reference internally (much). "I want to learn about nodeapi". "Well, >just one link< here you go".
Either way, the whole point of the bookmarks system was, "oh look there's a lesson on views argument handling. I better bookmark the handbook, and that snippet I posted on g.d.o, and that useful stuff on my website".
This feature is supposed to be a del.icio.us-like mechanism, to allow DD users access to stuff all over the INTERNETZ, pertinent to what they're trying to learn about. Remember this??
This whole thread is just a duplicate of the bookmarks one, so can't we just leave it over there please?
Bookmarks: "their primary purpose is to easily catalog and access web pages that a user has visited or will visit" and "Each browser has a built-in tool for managing the list of bookmarks". Feels a bit like "Sortable and Searchable Repository of useful links and resources" really, doesn't it?

westwesterson commentedI have an idea, lets merge the discussion. ;)
