Create Combined Recent Posts/Comments View for Forum

I'm struggling with creating a block that simply provides a descending by date list of recent posts/comments in the forum. I'm struggling since posts and comments are two different things. Is there a way you can "mix them together" and then list them in Views?
I'm trying to shift my users away from my SMF forum to the Drupal forums, but one feature they are in love with is the Recent Posts list. But of course in SMF and most other forum programs there isn't a different between "posts" and "comments" -- they are all just "posts".

Yes, a unified listing would be very useful.
It's very likely that somebody has written a snippet, or a module, to do this. Have you searched the snippets section of the handbooks?

Last I checked, nodecomments and forum weren't compatable. It's been maybe a month. Don't know if that's changed.
You might be able to do this with views fusion, if you can figure it out. It's a bit of voodoo but I'm thinking a view of new forum nodes and a view of new forum comments and then fuse them.
