I looked at the "big" open-source CMS's out there and chose Drupal for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Template Support
  • Rich, active community
  • Easy module integration / enhancement
  • Ease of installation
  • PHP / MySQL support / architecture
  • Lots of available enhancements and customizations
  • IBM seems to use it!

Let me tell you, I am not disappointed (except maybe a bit in the documentation).

You guys have done a bang-up job on this software. I'm highly impressed. I can't wait until 6 goes gold and some pretty templates come out for it.

In any event, my fledgeling web site is http://www.czigany-dance.com . I've migrated it to Drupal from something homegrown and based on phpBB 2.x. We're still adding content, but the structure is there.

Thanks again to everyone on the development team, including those of you doing modules and themes, for producing something incredible.

I just sat back in awe and enjoyed your fantastic visual design. Many simple elements which put together makes a whole larger than its parts. You can't ever put a photo into that site without heavy editing, changing tone and contrast to match the overall design.

The one photo I found, under "Tribe" actually fits more or less in. Too bad the galleries are empty.

The things that don't work usability wise is that the navigation is a bit obscured under the large decoration (which is oh so nicely done). Also, I usually point out that a horizontal menu at the top (somewhere) is where it gets noticed, but your site is pretty small, so it works in this context without.

It isn't something I would have tought of making, nor using, but it really made an impact on me.

Thanks. That's not my theme though. It's the Thirteen theme hosted here on the drupal.org themes database. My wife picked the theme even given the constraints I told her about (those you mentioned re no top menu, big graphic, and trouble with wide images). Oh well. Maybe someday I'll find a theme that she'll like better and will work better.

Yes, the galleries are somewhat barren. However, they won't be for long. I posted this literally on the first day the site was live. She's been moving over her content (which I'm very happy to say she found incredibly easy with Drupal) and pictures are next on her list.

Good for you, Drupal is good place to be. Nice looking site there as well.
