I still dont know what
I still dont know what drupal is... sorry.... and what is it for....
Even Drupallers can't decide
Even Drupallers can't decide what it is: http://groups.drupal.org/node/7634 ;)
Its a web application which allows management of content, users, functionality, and visual presentation.
well...
like the welcome page states:
beyond that is details; "how it does it" stuff. it is about you, about being part of a community of like-minded people trying to do the same thing; build websites. about choice.
at least that is how it works for me. does that make sense?
It is a content management
It is a content management system framework, which lets you build a system in which you can add content to be shown online and edit them - all very easily.
The main thing separating Drupal from other content management systems like maybe that e107 is the amount of things you can actually do with it - Drupal is module-based system that you can expand to meet your demands up to boundaries of PHP.
Drupal is a Content
Drupal is a Content Management System where you can easily build simple websites without even knowing html programming. You can put up a gallery which can display your photos easily.
Drupal has lots of "modules" which can add functionality to your website. Almost all of these tools are very intuitive.
Drupal has lots of installable themes which you can download for free under 'downloads' section.
You can also make simple changes to you chosen theme, depends on your style.
With Drupal, you can be an instant web developer by just following instructions on how it can be built, but you'll also have to listen on other drupallers tips and suggestions.
Drupal saves lot of time, instead of programming a yourself a blog, forum, gallery, and other web application, why not just use drupal, make yourself smart and be a part of this warm, friendly, helpful, and genius community.
I think almost all of us here in drupal, has a "whoah!" experience. Try it yourself.
CMS
Here at the Drupal forum, everyone is obviously eager to tell you how great drupal is. (And it is, really!)
However, it sounds as if you first need some general info on Content Management Systems (CMS'es). In short, a CMS is a software on your webserver which does two things:
- it enables you to add and edit the content of your website without any knowledge of computer languages like html and php
- it builds web pages made from your own content and layout when a visitors comes to your site
You might want to read this (in french!): http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Système_de_gestion_de_contenu.
Drupal and e107 are examples of CMS software. There are a lot of others too. While using a CMS-based site doesn't require knowledge of html, php, css etc, building a CMS based site probably will require some knowledge of those languages. I encourage you to try and build CMS-based site, just because it's interesting and fun to do. However it will not save time right away: The time saving will only start once your site is built and you want to update the content.
Sound interesting. Thx for
