Howdy Folks -

Sorry to have to ask a rather noobish question, but I've spent hours
looking for a straight forward answer to my question, but have been
unsuccessful..

After updating to version 5.5, I noticed that my taxonomy.module was
not installed. Since there isn't an install file, is there a link to a
resource that would direct me on manually installing this module using
phpmyadmin? Better yet, isn't there a module already created that can
help me with this task? Thanks for your assistance..

In D5 the DB tables used by taxonomy (vocabulary*, term*) are created by system.install either when you install Drupal or when you update to D5. Should just be a matter of ticking the box to enable the taxonomy module, and away you go.

What version did you update from? What did the update page say?
