When I was installing (I believe on the second step) it told me the files directory was missing and sure enough it was. I just created my own and it worked fine after that.

Please try out D6 RC2. Beta 4 is two releases behind. The install will create the default files directory for you.

RC2 also tests whether creation of of the files directory succeeded.
