Use views module for that you can easily understand how to do it by looking at default pages
Administration setting
This is a simple setting.
administer -> content management -> post settings
This allows you to define the length of the "teaser."
If you prefer a single static page as your front page,
administer -> settings -> site information
... and look for "Default front page." Change that value to the path of the node you wish to display as your front page.
