Somehow, I don't know when or how, I managed to place duplicate copies of Drupal core modules in the /sites/all/modules/ directory (where they don't belong), as well as in /modules/ directory (where they do belong). Every time I remove the the extra core modules from the /sites/all/modules/ subfolder, I get a white screen of death (WSOD). When I put them back, WSOD clears.

I believe the problem is in the databases. Can anyone suggest a MySql query/command that I can run through PhpMyAdmin to fix the problem, or other solution, to eliminate calls to the duplicate modules?

I discovered the issue in the course of investigating inconsistent reports that I was getting in Update Status (described at http://drupal.org/node/204988) which was occurring because of the presence of old modules where they didn't belong.

Many thanks.

Tom
