Description

Hi --

I was wondering if there is any way to attach a term to each file. If I had a vocabulary of Document Types with terms of Manuals and Brochures. Then each node could allow multiple attachments and each attachment had a term. Later on, you could have a list by term for all the Manuals in the system and all the Brochures in the system.

Do you know if there is a way to do that?

Thanks --

Missy.

Missy,

Attachment doesn't have this feature. Generally, taxonomy terms are applied to nodes. And you would have attachments to that node. If you want to categorize the attachment, you should categorize the node which contains the attachment.

From a usability standpoint, this makes the most sense anyway. Attachments don't stand alone, they're part of the content (node). If you could associate terms with the attachment itself, it might (may or may not depending on your information architecture) conflict with the terms you've associated with the content and by extension with the attachment.

It would be _technically_ possible to add terms to attachments (actually, not too hard, the hard part would be the code for the UI to set up what terms are allowed, etc)... but as I said above, it would be problematic from a logic standpoint. Thus I would be very reluctant to add such a feature to Attachment.

If you want a custom solution (ie not put into the official Attachment module), I'd be happy to talk to you privately. Feel free to contact me via my contact form.
