dvessel commentedAnything specific? What's in/out? That's what the upgrade guide is for. Please list specifics. If you just find it hard to read, that's something else entirely.

kulfi commentedIf I had specifics I wouldn't need a guide ;) I can't think of another way to phrase a request for an overview/cheat sheet/summary/brief of what is new in Drupal 6 theming and what won't be carried over from Drupal 5.

add1sun commentedulfk, have you reviewed the upgrade guide dvessel pointed out? That is exactly what it is - a bullet point list of changes between the versions. I think we don't quite "get" what you want beyond that.

kulfi commentedI've re-reviewed the documentation I mentioned at http://drupal.org/node/207393, and still have open questions:
- Is there a definitive list of what is optional/mandatory in [themename].info? Is there documentation of acceptable values for each entry?
- What is theme function registering about? I've looked at some contributed themes, I don't see it being done, is it required?
- Is there a key to http://drupal.org/files/theme_flow_5_1.pdf and http://drupal.org/files/theme_flow_6_1.pdf? What are the red/grey/solid/dashed/dotted lines representing? Are there any examples to accompany the PDFs.
- Is there a theme with examples of "function" + "template" overrides?
- What is manually registering hooks? I've looked at some contributed themes, I don't see it being done, is it required?
- Is there a list of variables available for page, node, block, etc templates?
The documentation is a huge improvement over D5/earlier (which is a qualified compliment) there are big gaps in my understanding of it, despite having Drupal 5 theming experience. Maybe my comprehension levels are just abyssmal, and I'm just another of many dismayed, but wannabe, themer/designer. Its an improvement, of which more is required, especially for those completely new to Drupal/6. But that's just this reader's review, and thats the best I can do to articulate what I don't "get" :(

dvessel commentedThere we go. That's a lot more helpful. :)
I'll address your points in the coming week or two and post back.
kulfi commentedIt was in the original post ... but I'm just happy things are finally moving forward :)

Okay, it wasn't two weeks..
The pdf's aren't important. I put that up more for devs working with engineless themes and theme engines for reference. That part is not up but the important stuff is in there.
