"Check-out" module noes not help when "... modified by another user, changes cannot be saved"

Ofter getting the message "This content has been modified by another user, changes cannot be saved" for a node I tried to edit (currently i am the only one editing and the node is blocked since weeks) I installed the "check-out" module. But it did not help. Node is still blocked.
