GHOP #147: Create a presentation with your 5 favorite NEW Drupal 6 features
| Project: | Google Highly Open Participation Contest (GHOP) |
| Component: | GHOP Task |
| Category: | task |
| Priority: | normal |
| Assigned: | Unassigned |
| Status: | reviewed & tested by the community |
| Issue tags: | GHOP |
The newest version of Drupal, version 6, will be released soon. It would be great if we could find out what new features people are the most excited about.
For this task, you should install the latest version of Drupal 6 (RC2 at the time of this writing).
Look through your new site and try out the new features (see the resources section for a link with a list of new features in Drupal 6).
Create a presentation which explains your 5 favorite NEW features found in Drupal 6. For each of your favorite features, write a short paragraph (2-3 sentences is fine) explaining what the feature is and why it is one of your favorite new features. You should also include a screenshot of this feature if it will help explain why this is one of your favorite features.
Deliverables:
* A short presentation explaining what your 5 favorite NEW features of Drupal 6 are and why.
* The presentation should be in a standards compliant and easy acessible format, such as a .pdf file.
* You should upload your presentation file as an attachment to this issue. The task will be considered complete when it is marked as RTBC by a reviewer.
Resources:
* Drupal 6 download (RC2): http://drupal.org/drupal-6.0-rc2
* Drupal 6 RC1 release announcement (contains new features found in Drupal 6): http://drupal.org/drupal-6.0-beta1

The presentation is, for the most part, finished. Made with Keynote. Comments welcome. Files attached.
I can also export this to a Flash SWF file or a QuickTime movie file.

1. I suspect that some of the graphics you used may not be permissible to use. Aren't the module update status icon and usability icon from apple?
2. More usability might be better as Improved usability.
3. I think a teaser is now called a summary, so "Teaser splitting" needs to be changed.
4. Due to the way you have only a few words per slide, it's difficult to see where a new favorite feature starts. Maybe you could number them or something like that to make it more obvious when you transition from one feature to the next.
5. A screenshot of a RTL site might be nice.
6. The right edge of the Druplicon has a few white pixels that really stand out.
Can you include a copyright and license slide at the end. The footer of the handbook page has the license you should use.
This looks pretty slick so far. Keep up the good work.

@aclight:
1. Nice catch ;) I've replaced all of them with Tango icons, albeit modified so they're more vibrant in color.
2 & 3. Changed, fixed.
4. Now with citrus stickers that numbers the new features.
5. This is a problem. Arabic doesn't seem to be ready for Drupal 6 (yet), so I can't take a good screenshot of a right-to-left language in action.
6. That might have something to do with the resolution. The Druplicon is now scaled down from a 512 by 512 PNG image with background transparency, converted from the Druplicon SVG source.
License added. CC by-sa 2.5 covers both the presentation and the modified Tango icons.

1.) On slide 7, I would rotate the icon 180 degrees so it's pointing up. I found it strange that the "update" icon was pointing down.
2.) On a few of the slides, including #27 and #37 and the ones with the Druplicon, the edges of the image still don't quite blend in with the background (in .pdf version at least).
3.) For the license, the handbook page footer uses version 2.0, and you're using 2.5. I'm not sure what the difference is, but I just thought I'd point this out.
4.) For a RTL screenshot, did you see if there is a Hebrew translation? I think that should also be RTL. If you can't get a screenshot, that's ok.
These are all very minor complaints, so I'm going to close out this task and give you credit for it. Perhaps you can find a good place in the handbooks to put this, as I think it's a really cool presentation. Great job!

This is very nice, kourge; good job!

1. I was thinking that an update would "down"load files, but if you think about version numbers, then yes, pointing up is definitely the way to go. So, should I go for it pointing up?
2. It might have something to do with the PDF reader, because over here on my side I don't see any issues with the edge blending.
3. I chose 2.5 because the Tango icons are 2.5. That way I wouldn't need separate licenses for the presentation and icons, which would complicate the issue.
4. Found out that Hebrew works. Will put screenshot.

Okay, now with a Hebrew screenshot.
