Drupal Showcase is pretty cool. Show-and-tell is fun. =)

But apart from that, what are the pros and cons of posting in Drupal Showcase?

On the down-side, I've read that Drupal-focused spammers use this site as a way to find their targets. (http://drupal.org/node/123047#comment-205388. Sounds like some spammers specialize in exploiting Drupal weaknesses.) Have people found this to be true?

Also, I'd thought a benefit would be the PageRank value of in-bound links, but most links posted here are marked as "nofollow", so they produce no PageRank value. Bummer. Interesting exception: I noticed that Moshe's fabulous observer.com showcase post doesn't have the nofollow attribute.

So is there a way to convince Drual.org that I'm not just a comment spammer? What's the hurdle? (Is there a specific requirement, or do you pretty much have to be an uber-contributer like Moshe)?

Any other thoughts on advantages and costs, especially for a site whose audience really doesn't overlap much with the drupal.org audience?

From my experience, you might get a couple hundred hits out of it. If you're a developer looking to show off your skills to potential clients, it's not a bad idea. Can also be useful if you're looking for feedback from other developers. I wouldn't worry about spammers, there are easier ways for them to find Drupal sites (ie: Google for "q=node").

yes, I also have ambivalent feelings about it, but from another point of vies.

Usually, I see my work as crap after a year or so. What if somebody takes a look on one of my old sites and says 'Holy God, what the hell did you do?" ;)

To me, the biggest pro is the feedback. Getting positive and constructive criticism is always helpful. Also, when you post a site, if you include information about how you build it, you are teaching and giving back to the open source community, which is what Drupal is all about.
