mobile, handheld, drupal friendly site wanted...
I would great appreciate a bit of guidance here. I would like to create a handheld friendly version of my site. That is, pda's, mobile phones etc. and I have looked far and wide and...come up empty handed. Here is my problem. Yes, there are mobile themes on drupal...but they have there own issues. Take the mobi loader module and accompanying mobi theme. It's a great idea...but you need a .mobi domain. I don't have this and don't want to force my users to try and figure out that I have one...even if I did. Also when tested here at http://mr.dev.mobi/ it's not %100. Then there is the accessibility module. When skiffie.com, the site of this module's creator is tested...it's %100 and does everything automatically...without the need of the .mobi domain. But, I have tried to contact the author repeatedly on how everything works...to no avail. The css sheets are empty, so I have to style them. No problem except I have no idea on how to style for mobile devices. Also, I would have to use the web theme that came with it...a watered down bluemarine. I don't want to...I already use garland and do not want to change. Then...there is the mobile.theme. Actually, I have no idea how to use it because it lacks a README file. As a theme itself, it works. But, must I use this as a default theme or can I just enable it and it will override my main theme when a mobile device makes a page request for my site. I don't know...as I said it without a README file. The Mobit theme switcher thing in the themes section is an interesting thing. It allows users to choose a mobile theme once they've logged in and figured out that you offer this. But; what if they try to access your site with a mobile device FIRST. Then they get a mess and move on not knowing they could log in with a computer and format things for their mobile viewing pleasure. Also...small thing...it lacks the .info file. Finally, I've read you can do some css magic and format everything with ease use some header hocus pocus. How? Everyone saysy it's possible...noone says how. Help.
cheers,
wim

Accessibility Module
I think that I have been in touch since you posted this comment,
but for others there is new documentation available on site:
http://www.skiffie.com/mobile/guides/overview
http://www.skiffie.com/mobile/guides/accessibility-module-in-depth
I have even created a theme for v6 that does basic UA checking and serves a smaller site -
styles included:
Files: http://www.skiffie.com/mobile/theme-files/v6/1
Guide: http://www.skiffie.com/mobile/guides/bluemobi-theme
I am currently evaluating how to implement a new version of the module for v6!

Accessibility Module + Drupal 4.7 ???
the Accessibility Module sounds the most streamlined solution...
will it work with Drupal 4.7?
i know i should really upgrade to 5x but there are a couple modules i really like that aren't available in 5
thanks!
Check skiffie
I have still got the module for v4.7x - it has not been touched for a while and will not developed further.
However, it is the module that I was using on 227net before its demise.
Please note that you must have themes called "wap", "mobi" and "web" for this to work correctly -
you should be able to get enough info on the site, but if you cannot find what you are looking for:
please post comments on site. (Drupal membership works there too!)

Good luck!

another solution is Switch Theme
hi, i was having very similar problems...
i am currently using the module called Switching Themes - er or something like that?
it basically puts a block on your site where you can label 2 or more themes that users can choose from...
check it out here:

i would really like an automatic solution but it is not clear to me if the skiffie module solution works for 4.7 drupal?
