Hello

We're trying to install drupal on our home directory at our server (using cpanel and Fantastico).

The installation failed and returned an error message that goes like this:

The installation can not be completed:
- You chose to install in the main directory of the domain xxxxxxxxxx.com, but there are conflicting filenames, therefore we can not proceed. Following filenames already exist in the main directory of the domain xxxxxxxx.com (path="/home/xxxxxxx/public_html/").You must manually remove these files before proceeding with auto-installation:
.htaccess

OK - this seems to imply the problem is a file called "htaccess" already existing - and therefore drupal can't install. Have we read this correctly?

Also - this htaccess file doesn't seem to show in our File Manager although a search reveals it exists.

So...

1. Should we remove the htaccess file somehow?
2. If not, then what do we do?

Many thanks if anyone knows

hello doctorpaul,
i had i think the same issue, which is outlined here http://drupal.org/node/209205

I think your FTP Client or browser filemanager is not displaying certain file types, eg. ".htaccess", so i suggest you either change a preference setting somewhere (If this exist) or you downlaod 1 of the several FTP clients. For an example flashfxp.com (trial download).

Good Luck.

HI,
I had the same issue after uninstalling wordpress and trying to install drupal. I found the answer!
When you load up file manager in Cpanel it gives you the option for where you want to open the manager and if it should show hidden files. Check "show hidden files" and then open the manager. It should now show and you should be able to delete it.

Now drupal should install fine. If not contact your host and ask them to delete it for you.
