I have inherited a Drupal system version 4.6.5
A recent update of PHP to version 5.2.5 by the host ISP caused a number of problems most of which have been solved (topics 210286 fixed via forum response, 210489 fixed by ISP and unrelated to Drupal, and 210448 partially fixed by forum).
Thanks to forum members who provide solutions or links to solutions.
It seems that the system is overdue for an update to a more recent version.
1. What version should be used at this stage. I don't want to be at the bleeding edge on this one, so a recent stable and well supported version would be the target.
2. How is the update actually achieved? Is there a guide somewhere? My searches have not been able to locate one.
3. I have a lot of content, some modified modules and over 50 existing users. How do I preserve this in the new version?
4. How can I test the new version before dumping the old one? Can this be done on my PC or only on the ISP server site?

Home, sweet home.
See the first article on the home page. The version you want to aim for is 4.7.11. There is a link to upgrading instructions.
