terms on the same level are shown with --notation

i have a single level category like

Topics

Terms are like:

news
-Announcements
reviews
newproducts

Only one has a parent of news, the other have root.

However syndication displays them incorrectly as all chidlren of news with -- notation

as an aside, please consider letting us display the main /rss.xml via this module
