Just thought I'd share my experience with 000webhost if anyone is interested.

In short you get what you pay for; sometimes a little more.

The good:

  • Free
  • 250MB space
  • 100GB transfer
  • CPanel
  • Full domain hosting
  • Fast support response
  • No advertising
  • Page load time is snappy

The bad:

  • Support response sometimes looked copied/pasted and didn't quite answer the question
  • Misleading marketing / outdated FAQ
    • Front page says MySQL 5 but only got MySQL 4.1. Customer support said to create a new account as some of their servers still have 4.1. New account still had 4.1
    • FAQ said you can visit your site before DNS propagation (important for testing before rolling over your DNS) but support staff said that this was a security concern so now DNS must be updated before your site can be accessed
  • 2MB limit on file uploads
  • Some PHP functions such as set_time_limit() are disabled and max_execution_time = 15s which may be short for big crons
  • No localhost sendmail, only SMTP which is not configured in php.ini so the Drupal SMTP module is required
  • No SSH/SFTP/SCP
  • No SSL support for your domain
  • No SSL on their domain when logging in to manage your account
  • Your account password is displayed in clear text on your "account details" page

000webhost is a scam

After several months of having received poor hosted websites. (poor speed and a lot of server down-time) I started their affiliate program. 5 dollars for every signup you bring in.

Their webhosting is free, yes, but their affiliate program is a SCAM.

And thus in short, 000webhost.com is A SCAM. They do not reply to support requests and simply suspend your affiliate account when you have 305 dollars to be paid out. Payments were postponed 3 times. Each time they had some obscure reason why payments were postponed. And at the end, your account will be gone. No way to claim anything, it will simply be suspended.

Don't fall for the 000webhost.com scam. They are scammers and don't pay out! They simply remove your affiliate account and you have no means of contacting them.

Wow, I didn't realize they were that bad. After 1 week using 000 I decided to switch to DVH and haven't had any problems there. Thanks for the heads up.

I have been wondering if any one had tried them. I thought they sounded too good to be true.

Thanks for the tip!

After 30 days of waiting, the gave you this announcement right on your 1st payday:

Announcement: we have started to use 60 days signup verification procedure (we used 30 days signup verification system before). That is because we received lots of fraudulent signups especially from Vietnam and China and we need more time to check everything. So if you have referred user today, it will be credited in 2 months. We need these 2 months to protect us from fraudulent signups. We are sorry if we made any inconveniences for you and let us to know if you have any questions.

I make a living promoting websites, so it deeply insults me when an affiliate program doesn't live up to its end of the agreement.

000webhost owes me for hundreds of accounts that I referred to them, and they only way to get a response from support is with threats, but even that doesn't do anything in the end.

So, I encourage anyone that has been scammed to file a formal complaint with the FBI online fraud division: http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx They are there to stop online fraud, even for just a few hundred bucks. With enough of us together, we will get the FBI's attention.

Also file a complaint at the FDC. http://www.fdc.gov

Finally, feel free to get in touch with me. derek at infogringo dot com

Let's shut down 000webhost. Affiliate marketers like us make a living driving traffic, so let's drive traffic to the FBI's complaint form. I am doing my part, please do yours. Post instructions to help convince others to file a formal complaint.
