I have a number of members wishing that they would not have to refresh the page in order to see if any other members have logged in. They're looking for something that auto-refreshes I guess.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has given thought to some sort of ajax-based who's online block. I had initially thought i-frame but it seems ajax is the way to go these days.
It's all new to me, so I've no idea how to start coding it. Does this sound like a simple thing to do, or is it too complex for a newbie hack like myself?
Thanks for any suggestions,
Brad

Just bumping...
Just bumping this to find out if this has ever happened or if there is discussion elsewhere on the site.
Progress
Wondering if anyone has heard anything on this. This would be handy for my site where a person may be listening to a few audio files that are ove 4 minutes in length. They might be working on some music project while they are there and then if they saw one of there buddies who may be over seas come online they could chat before they miss each other. Does this make a good argument for ajax who's online module. We might be able to get the coder for the Avatar blocks module interested in making this happen. Let me know what you guys might have already found out on this before I try to connect with him on this. I noticed this thread is a little old but yet comes up at the top on ajax who's online search, I will continue to search.

I have something
I wrote a module to do this. Well, more accurately, I glued together some existing code to accomplish this. This module is far from refined as I'm really not a module developer, but it does seem to work. The way I have it set up, you have to go into permissions and give permission to role(s) to access the module, then display the block and give the same roles permissions to access it. So, not the most slick set-up, but I didn't know how else to do it.
If someone is able to improve it, that would be great.
It appears I can't attach it here, so I made it available here: http://kittycam.net/sites/all/modules/ajaxwho/ajaxwho.tgz
