I am having problems getting the anonymous users to redirect to the forum head after posting a forum topic. They currently redirect to the homepage. Authenticated users login to the proper page.

I'll venture an answer because nobody else seems to know... have you looked at the Workflow module? I believe it handles these sorts of issues...
