Hello!

I am the editor of a community newspaper project, www.westki.info. We have been using your terrific module Panels for a while now. It is amazing. We have also explored the great potential of Panels 2 and are excited to try it.

My question is has anyone used Panels 2 Beta on a live, preferably media-related, site? Should we wait until the official release? Or is it ok to switch from Panels to Panels 2?

Sorry for submitting such a silly question! But we can't wait :-)

Thanks for the great job you're doing!

I've been using it on a live site since alpha, but my site is always a bit broken, and I don't mind dealing with bugfixes on the fly, running -dev or applying patches if things go wrong. I'd say overall panels 2 is pretty stable now though, I've not had many showstopping issues for a while. But, it's beta code, so officially the answer would be 'no'.

Officially? No.

Unofficially? We use Panels on http://musicbox.sonybmg.com -- rather extensively, you can see.

But we have dedicated developers and we do a lot of work every time we have to update panels, because of all of the bug fixes / api fixes, etc.

Now, hopefully that update work will stop once it's updated to the beta line, since I'm freezing the API and am only fixing bugs and possibly providing new .inc files as they are written.

IF you feel comfortable with the idea that, yes, something unforseen and untoward could cause you a problem, and you can handle a possibly difficult update cycle, Panels 2 should be basically ready for live sites. But please exercise care, and go the extra mile for backups and testing.
