Under some circumstances that I haven't been able to reproduce consistently, base DN values entered in the configuration textarea are saved with a trailing newline in the database. The ldap search for the user dn fails when using that base DN, preventing the authentication.
Seems the values might need some trimmimg before going into the database. I was in a terrible hurry so I just hardcoded the base DN for my installation.
