do module developers have control over which modules are shown as Recommended, Latest, Developer, Security for a particular installed module? For example, can they control that a dev module will only show as Developer for an installed point release and Recommended for an installed dev version?

many module developers seem confused by how the update module works.

for example, the Page Title module has a security update for 2.x-dev version but the security update is showing for the point release 1.1. the developer of the module says the security update does not apply to 1.1. see attached picture.

is this an issue that needs more documentation for the module developers or is this a bug in the update module?

http://drupal.org/node/164405 was incorrectly tagged as a security release - that has now been fixed by the Page Title maintainer.

Right. Maintainers don't Get It(tm), in spite of documentation like http://drupal.org/node/197584 and my repeated emails to the devel list to try to get people on board. See also http://drupal.org/node/210497
