I grabbed the latest version of head and put it up on my dev site, no errors were triggering but the test weren't listing either. I grabbed head again, deleted/reupped the modules/simpletest/simpletest directory, whiped my database completel a couple times, no luck. Grabbed apache, php, mysql and set up a local environment with the exact same files, everything worked exactly as it should..
anyone else had this issue?

Rok Žlender commentedNever heard of similar problems. If you can debug or give some additional info that would be much appreciated. The only thing I could think of atm is that apache/simpletest doesn't have proper permission to list "tests" directory.

karens commentedAny chance you were using PHP4? See http://drupal.org/node/217143.

boombatower commentedSince this doesn't seem to be a major concern due to the fact that the errors occur sporadically on test PHP4 environments there doesn't seem to be any compelling reason to spend time creating the workaround.
Especially with the concentration being placed on full test coverage of 7.x.
