So I finally got multisite and all the basics up and running on GoDaddy... only to find out that the GoogleGroups-like site I wanted to create couldn't receive emails due to the fact that GoDaddy doesn't support PHP IMAP (for "security" reasons - yeah right).

Anyways, I've got a couple of registered domains and a single drupal install (with multisite) on my now useless GoDaddy account, and I'm considering migrating to a host that supports IMAP (and probably has better service). Has anyone done this? How difficult is it, and were you able to retain all your content? I also use CCK, which may make migration challenging.

Thanks!

B

p.s. - open to suggestions for hosts that don't try to force you into a more expensive plan to support something as basic as IMAP. and yes, I am bitter ;o)

Go to www.modwest.com. They are my top pick for internet hosting (I also know the guy who owns it :)). But their tech support is outstanding. You never have to wait on hold because you are always first in line. Plus they just upgraded all their hosting plans. Definitely worth checking out.

Hello,

Our web hosting service provides IMAP for no extra cost. Visit www.mmhosting.com. Use coupon code "drupal" to get $25 off your order.

Thanks,

To answer your question:

Old hosting environment:
Clear your cache and sesion tables in your Drupal db.
Make a back up of your Drupal database.
Make an archive of your Drupal folder.

New hosting environment:
Create new database from your backup.
Create your Drupal user.
Extract Drupal from your archive.
Change you settings.php if necessary.

If you use Gallery2, or other external software, it may be more complicated.

Don't forget to change your DNS information. The easiest is to change the DNS entries at your registrar to your hosting company's. Don't forget to lock your domain at your registrar when you are done.

BTW, research any hosting links provided because a lot of people doing so are affiliates or resellers that stand to make money off of you taking them up on their offer. Not that there is anything wrong with that, we all need to make money, but you still need to do your own independent research. Searching these forums may be a good start. Also contacting the posters directly to ask them questions regarding your specific needs, aside from IMAP, may also be helpful.

i am thinking of developing my site on my godaddy account and then possibly transferring it later on. Would I have to go through the whole process of installing drupal, all the modules and functionality again? Or could this just be transferred?

I'd delete this, but I can't so please ignore.
