Hello,
I'm a reasonably new Drupal user, just trying to get my head around how things work, using Drupal 5.6. I'm am trying to enable the site wide search, but for some reason the block will not appear.
I am currently using the default Garland theme.
I have gone into Administer > Site Building > Modules, ticked the Search Module and saved configuration.
I then went to Administer > Site Building > Themes, clicked Configure on the Garland theme, ticked Search box and clicked Save configuration. But when the page reloads, the Search box is again unticked?
Can anyone tell me why it keeps unticking its self? Am I doing something wrong?

Blocks
Try going to blocks and looking for the search bar, and telling it to appear somewhere.
I'm not exactly sure about your specific error, sorry.

Thanks
Thanks for the reply.
I've got it set to appear in the right sidebar, but it's not appearing no matter where I set it to be. And I'm assuming that this has something to do with the search box not staying ticked in the configuration page for the theme, as this seemed strange, but I really have no idea...
There are global theme
There are global theme settings as well as theme-specific settings, check that they're both the same.
??
The search tick box won't stay ticked on the global settings page either.
EDIT: Not sure what the problem was, but a full reinstall seemed to fix it. w00t. Thanks all for the suggestions.
Permissions
Make sure that you have granted permissions to view/adminiser the search box in the Access Control panel.
Exact Same Problem
Drupal 6 installation I have Search Block enabled in right column. I have Search Module Enabled. I try to enable Search in Themes but everytime I try to save the configuration it unchecks. I really don't want to have to go through a reinstall. Does anyone know what's going on?
UPDATE:
Ok so it was that I had search disabled in User Management.
Administer > User Management > Permissions
Make sure search content is enabled for all users you want to be able to search your site.
Thanks to Big G-luv in the oaktown for putting me up on that.
Solved
I had the same problem.
You just need to go into Permissions and check the permission boxes associated with Search.
