Can anyone list some comparisons between Buddylist2 vs. User Relationships? Does Buddylist2 support a default friend that every new user gets (like Tom on MySpace), etc.? I tested out User Relationships, and I found way too many bugs for my liking, so I don't think it will be a viable choice at this time. Thanks.

nodestroy commentedto your first question:
basically its possible, whats missing is an action for workflow_ng to create a buddy connection (quite not hard to implement). i have this in mind, but first i wan´t to provide a stable and bug-free module. i looked at user_relationship, it has many features but what didn´t see was a flexibility as we need it. maybe buddylist/user_relationship is the core module for a social networking site, i think customization is very important for such an module. i tried to get this with views and the use of workflow_ng.
in drupal6 the views stuff will be much more better&powerfull (no need of usernode). the buddylist2 tables are prepared for named relationship, and i will implement it when the basic stuff is stable enough, so that i can provide a stable release.
thoughts for further development are everytime welcome.

mercmobily commentedHi,
I can settle this one actually...
User Relationships is a theoretically good module. However, it's been completely abandoned by its author. It also duplicates pretty much everything Buddylist does (which is against Drupal's principles).
I agree that the person who wrote User Relationships had some good ideas -- especially in terms of speed. However, he should have continued developing it rather than abandoning it like he did.
Nodestroy: can I mark this one as "fixed"? :-D
