Front Page seems to be a great module. Thanks for it.
I want to use it only to have different front pages for anonymous and authenticated users.

The only thing I can’t manage is to publish nodes on the new front page. I have published some nodes (like events) to the original front page (/node) and I have placed some blocks there. Now I have installed Front Page, the blocks are still there, but the nodes are gone.
Can someone tell me what snippet I have to place where to get my nodes back?

there's a snippet in the readme.txt file that explains how to pull up the list of nodes promoted to front page...i.e. the default /node/ page. Alternatively you just change your front page settings from 'front_page' to '/node'
