When you visit the configuration options for the image field, you see "The maximum allowed image size expressed as WIDTHxHEIGHT (e.g. 640x480). Set to 0 for no restriction.", which leads to the impression that any image size larger than that will be denied. This can be misleading, so a fix in the documentation might help.... Maybe:

"The maximum allowed image size expressed as WIDTHxHEIGHT (e.g. 640x480). Set to 0 for no restriction. If a larger image is uploaded, it will be resized to reflect the given width and height."

I'd suggest that this is actually taken a step further and has the word "maximum image size" rephrased (in the documentation and the UI) to something like "converted image size" or "resize to...". I agree that the word "maximum" gives the connotation that anything larger than that will be rejected.

Well I'm not going to change the title/variable name right now, maybe in the future... but the doc fix has been committed to DRUPAL-5--2
