korakora - January 26, 2008 - 13:18

Dear Friends in the FOSS/Drupal Community,

We've just launched the PROCESS/YON On-Line Creative Retreat-Workshop using Drupal!

So far so good. :)

Below is the call to Participate in the On-Line Event.

Our Team is based in the Philippines and this is a project supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

Please join the Retreat-Workshop!

Mabuhay!
Fatima

Dear friends,

Please find below the invitation to join the WEBSINING ON-LINE Retreat-Workshops. You are all invited!

There are currently two sections in the website: WORKSHOP TOPICS and REFLECTIONS

Under Workshop Topics are three topics for discussion: 1) Competing Traditions; 2) The Nature of Technology; and 3) Medium and Message.

Under Reflections are a number of texts/references for contemplation, for example: 1) Reflections on the Nature of Competition: Art Competition, Sports Competition, Religious Competition, Educational Competition, Economic Competition; 2) Reflections on the Nature of Technology: On Computers and on Machines.

Trevor Batten, WEBSINING PROCESS/YON Assistant Project Director, has posted materials that we hope might lead towards the contemplation upon society and human cultural practices in terms of a "machine" (i.e. a semi-autonomous collection of inter-connected parts) where the "design" of such a machine (its components and their organisation) affects the way it operates.

Through these topics, we hope to conceptually integrate art, culture and technology and encourage people to think more about the "design" of the system(s) they live in: Maybe encouraging and enabling peopleto understand and control their personal situations better.

If you are interested in problematizing, meditating upon and confronting burning issues in these Topics and Reflections, we encourage you to register in this ON-LINE Retreat-Workshop. To participate, simply register as a new member through http://websining.net/websining08/

We also welcome new ideas for Topic and/or Reflection.

We will also be opening a new section on the ON-LINE Retreat-Workshops, called OPEN ART SPACE, where participants in the ON-LINE Retreat-Workshops may present their selected work and discuss them with co-participants within a free, open and constructive environment.

When you register on-line, you will be asked to provide a short statement for the ON-LINE Retreat-Workshop. The ON-LINE Retreat-Workshops runs on Free/Open-Source software Drupal, and it should be fairly easy to use. If there are problems simply contact the Site Administrator (admin@websining.net).

See you all on-line! :)

Greetings to all,
Fatima Lasay

Invitation to Participate:
WEBSINING: PROCESS/YON ON-LINE EVENT

To extend the WEBSINING experience to those who may not be able to participate in the physical Retreat-Workshops, Forums and/or Exhibitions, WEBSINING announces an on-line version of the PROCESS/YON Retreat-Workshops available through the PROCESS/YON website. This on-line initiative offers the opportunity for a broader audience to partake in the creative process of the WEBSINING experience of engaging digital technologies in art-making, while interrogating the implications of such processes on art and society in general.

The PROCESS/YON On-Line Retreat-Workshop involves a reflection on a number of conceptual and philosophical issues surrounding art and technology. The aim is to refocus artistic and cultural attitudes regarding digital technology towards an approach based on technology as an exploratory medium for traditional artistic reflection and research. Through the On-Line Retreat Workshops, we shall reflect upon "process" as the main conceptual context for the computer, and explore how such an approach changes our perspective of the world.

To participate, simply register as a new member through http://websining.net/websining08/

WEBSINING: PROCESS/YON invites all interested individuals to participate in the ON-LINE Retreat-Workshops. Organizations, learning institutions or groups (for example interest groups or formal classes in computer art, art history, philosophy, art theory, social studies, anthropology, computer science, engineering, education, among others) are all also encouraged to participate!

The PROCESS/YON On-Line Retreat-Workshop will begin on January 21, 2008 and will be in continuous development after the Philippine Arts Festival celebrations in February 2008.

ABOUT WEBSINING: PROCESS/YON:
WEBSINING: PROCESS/YON is a National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) funded project, involving collaboration between the Foundation for Media Alternatives (FMA) and Korakora.org. It is part of the NCCA-Philippine Arts Festival celebration and is intended to expand and develop Philippine digital art practices within the continually evolving "WEBSINING" tradition initiated by the National Committee on Visual Arts (NCVA) in 2005.
